On the IMDB (Internet Movie Database) Alma is credited as appearing in a number of TV shows & movies from the 50's & 60's and was even an uncredited singer in the Dirk Bogarde film 'For Better, For Worse' ! Does anyone have a copy or (even better) an excerpt of this ? ~ The link for Alma's entry on IMDB is

I was a member of her fan club in the early fifties, as a youngster of 10 or so, and remember being ragged by my contemporaries, who thought, erroneously, that they knew better. I have lost none of the fascination for Alma over the years, I am pleased to say, and continually play her songs which always give great pleasure. Had she been spared, she would doubtless have remained a wonderful entertainer, developing into a huge international star. I do miss her and all that she accomplished.

I am a child of the sixties and don't really remember Alma properly, but what a wonderful entertainer and singer, she would leave most of today's female singers standing. Looking forward to logging into this terrific site, I'm sure Alma would have been thrilled.

Many thanks for a great site, I have been a fan of Alma since childhood.
From 1966 to 1968 I worked in the cemetery were Alma is buried working on stone restoration, even cleaned her stone one time.
In 1982 I joined a company that owned a building in Chiswick that I believe was the old Hudson Rambler building, there was an old car at the top of the biulding that was reputed to be one of her old cars, I still have a photo of it. Many thanks again for a great site, it brought back so many good memories of Alma.

Excellent web site, really well organised and a true tribute. Its amazing to think, so many years after her death, so many people still cherish that great voice. I'm sure she would never have imagined that someone would be sitting down with Alma in the cd player in Malta (in this case) listening to her in 2007 and that there would be such a great web site as a tribute,

    Hello,

Nice to see this star has been appreciated in this way and rightly so, well
done. I recently watched a documentary on Alma and although, to be honest,
I wasn't a great fan of that kind of music at the time (as oppose to Alma
herself). I realised watching the documentary why I nevertheless did make a
point of listening to her sing and watching her performances. She was
certainly superior to those alike that were around at the time and I was
fully aware of that exceptional voice that she had. Her sheer bubbly
personality and of course her great beauty was something I have never seen
repeated in a female singer in this country since. She was just so talented
beyond her vocals also, a rarity. I honestly believe that she would have
gone on to much greater things because of her versatility and talent for
adapting. And I have no doubt that she would have appropriated songwriters
to put her on a par with, if not above, the Shirley's, Cilla's and Dusty's.
Needless to say after watching the documentary I was left reminiscing and
deeply saddened at the great loss of such a wonderful, gifted human being
and personality that unlike the great majority of 'entertainers' who
followed, was at one with her millions of fans. May her memory live on
    forever.

    Sincere Wishes
    Septimus

I was only 2years old when Alma left so didnt really know much about her except for my Mum and Dads old records. One day looking through the local HMV, I was drawn to this beautiful face on a cd box-it was Alma's! I thought at last I could put a face to the voice I remember from childhood. Naturally,I bought it (Ultimate Collection) and can't stop playing it! Have even converted my friends to become "Almanatics"!!

I don't know if anybody would be interested, but i have 2 sideboards that were owned by alma cogan, with photographic evidence to prove this. Sadly, they are a little too big for our small dining room, so i have to sell them. Dear All

My name is Julie Roach and I am the extremely proud eldest daughter of the most brilliant Stan Foster, Alma's Musical Director. I would like to thank the Alma Fan Club and indeed the Alma Fans for all the kind words, letters and cards sent to mum, Lisa and myself. They have been very heart warming, thank you.
He will be hugely missed by us, his grandchildren and friends. But let us take comfort in knowing that he is now back playing on that big grand piano in the sky with an extremely loved lady beside him - Alma.

    With love and thanks, Julie

With regard to Mr Woods post on the page dedicated to Stan Foster and for Alma and Stan's fans to post tributes, you may be wondering where the post has gone.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that the message has been removed because it was not only inappropriate, but we felt that it may be offensive to Stan's family and his real true friends and fans.

The page dedicated to Stan is exactly that-dedicated.A place where those who knew Stan might want to share their memories of the great man himself. It was not intended to be a place for boasts. It most certainly was never meant to be a place for embellished tales.

I should also like to take the oportunity to state that Mr Woods claim that it was him who had the Australian Film "Homme Movies" footage of Alma and Stan transferred at his expense is untrue.I had the transfer done at "Digiflicks" in Norton, a few miles from my home. After which I returned the original film footage to Stan personally, as requested.

I can only apologise to any of you who read the message and were upset or confussed by it.

As for Mr Woods knowing the "True Story" of Stan & Alma...I suggest you wait until the book "Alma Cogan" The true story is published, by the person that really knows Carole Foster.

Finally may I suggest that Mr Woods finds another outlet for his embellished fantasies.

(Please remember no personal or family stories will be published on Alma's website...unless permission is given by the Cogan or Foster Family)

Eddie President of the Alma Cogan Fan Club.

I think you have forgotten at least two of her singles, or maybe they were just released locally? Alma had a big hit in Sweden in 1965 with the Birds and the bees, and a smaller hit in 1966 with Hello baby. I was fortuante to see her in concert in Sweden in 1965 (I think) She appeared in an open air concert in Furuvik and I and my best friend were ther. We were about 11 or twelve years old. I still have the ckio from the local newspaper with the review. At least I have the picture somewhere. Wonderful memories.....

In August of '62 John Barry referred to a recent recording session with Alma Cogan. I've never been able to discover what this was or, indeed, if the recordings(s) involved were ever released. Barry was not, of course, her usual arranger/accompanist, but a member of the John Barry Seven/Orchestra also recalls working with her and the party she gave afterwards. They also both recorded for Columbia.

Not all the 1962 tracks I've examined in written format have the name of the orchestra/arranger/conductor, and those I've listened to aren't easily identifiable as a Barry arrangement.

So my question is, does anybody have a record by Alma that includes any credit reference to the John Barry Orchestra, etc.? I assume it/they are album tracks.

If not, I assume whatever it was remains unreleased and still in the EMI vaults.
